Etiquette. For 11 years, I have been submitting “Clerk Chatter” to the Messenger for publication. Upon review of some archived thoughts for these pieces, I found over half of submissions to the Messenger came down to etiquette as the theme. Etiquette is unwritten and written guidelines that encourage fair interactions with others. Many of our ordinances are in place to reinforce this concept because people do forget that letting your pet run-at-large, not picking up after your pet at the park, damaging park land, not following established parking procedures, and flushing/draining items into the sewer system that do not belong there affect other people or put additional cost on operating the City’s systems. Many times, we may not think of the consequences that our actions or inactions place on others. Ordinance is a reminder to think about the consequences of your actions.
The reason I was reviewing some old “Clerk Chatter” material is because Deputy Clerk Erica Young and I had a conversation about a new perspective on the items that City Hall shares in these articles. So, Ms. Young will be crafting these City Hall communications for the Messenger beginning next month. I am certain that her submissions will be thoughtful and informative.
One last item: The wastewater treatment facility project is close to finished. The new facility has been “seeded”, and half of our wastewater flow is diverted to fill it to operational level. When the new facility is adjusted to ensure that it is emitting clean post-treatment water, the old facility will be removed. There will be one more phase of sewer lining and manhole rehabilitation beginning in spring of 2027.
