County Dairy Days Celebration Brings Crowd of Thousands to Mazeppa Sat. & Sun.

Two parades, contests and a colorful ceremony crowning Wabasha county’s dairy princess were highlights of a most successful County Dairy Days celebration here Saturday and Sunday.

Ideal weather conditions drew a crowd here numbered in the thousands.

Names Wabasha County’s representative in the regional “Princess Kay of the Milky Way” contest was Miss Janet Cravath of Plainview, 17-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Cravath. After a great deal of suspense on the part of Master of Ceremonies Lew Conlon, Minnesota manager of the American Dairy association, Miss Cravath was crowned by Miss Ruth Marie Peterson of Lansing, reigning as Princess Kay and also as America’s Dairy princess, at the village park Sunday afternoon. Names as her attendants were Miss Bernetta Seipel, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Seipel of Mazeppa, and Miss Bernitta Rupkalvis, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Rupkalvis of Theilman.

GUESSING CONTEST

Also announced from the stage were winners in the guessing contest from the stage were winners in the guessing contest held during the cooking school, Saturday afternoon. Contestants guessed the combined weight of all girls and women in attendance. Joyce Mehrkens came closest guessing six tons, 656 pounds and was given a package of cheese.

Mrs. Lester Howatt was second with six tons 200 pounds and won a pound of butter. The correct figure was six tons 656 pounds.
