Welcome To Plowville 1956-Mazeppa, Minn.—Sept. 14-15
The weather is the big topic of discussion among soil conservation workers these days.
That’s not too surprising for Friday and Saturday, Sept. 14 and 15, will find the two-day program of Plowville ’56 in full swing on a five farm layout on the Donald Darcy, Peter Perrotti, Florian Reding, Neil Arendt and Clarence Arendt farms north of here.
“We’re hoping for a real break in the weather,” commented Vincent Sand, general chairman of the event “Rain would cut attendance of course.”
Nearly a hundred volunteer workers from all parts of southeastern Minnesota gathered at the Plowville site Saturday to complete preparation for the big event this Friday and Saturday.
Gov. Orville Freeman and Congressman August H. Anderson of Red Wing will deliver addresses during the noon hour Saturday. Their talks are expected to be non-political in nature but will stress the value of soil conservation.
Visitors will find an interesting “machinery row.” Farm equipment manufacturers have rented a number of lots to display their new machinery.
Flying farmers will come to the farms in their own planes, a special landing site having been prepared Saturday. People who want a birds-eye view of how some farmers have actually applied soil conservation practice to their land may take a special air tour both days.
