St. Paul, Minn. — Brad Novacheck of Humboldt (St. Paul) & Nikki Flaaen of Zumbrota-Mazeppa are hosting Chloe Hanson as a Minnesota Agricultural Education Intern. The internship is part of a State Teach Ag Results (STAR) program initiative, which is coordinated by the Minnesota Agricultural Education Leadership Council (MAELC). Hanson is originally from Hastings, MN and is studying Agricultural Education at South Dakota State University.

During the internship, Hanson will be working closely with Brad Novacheck & Nikki Flaaen to help local students and community members engage in agricultural education throughout the summer months. “Growing up, I was very active in 4-H and met many great educators who were passionate about educating the world about the importance of agriculture in our everyday lives. I also really enjoy Ag Ed because you get to learn many different skills and gain knowledge in tons of different pathways.,” said Hanson.

“The Zumbrota-Mazeppa Ag program is excited to host Chloe Hanson as an intern this summer in partnership with the Humboldt Ag Program as well. Having an intern join our programs is an exciting opportunity and we look forward to having Chloe come hang out with us. Some of the things she will be doing with our programs is meeting our students and FFA members, observing some classes as we finish out the year, assisting with FFA events throughout the summer, and doing some SAE program visits. Thank you, MAELC, for providing these opportunities for future ag teachers!” says Nikki Flaaen.

“The Humboldt FFA chapter is excited to host Chole Hansen this summer along with Zumbrota-Mazeppa. Chloe will get an opportunity to observe and interreact with an urban FFA program. Chloe will get an opportunity to see summer SAE projects, be a part of Humboldt Ag Day, go on various Ag field trips, be a part of summer officer meetings, and help prepare for an end of summer showcase. We look forward to giving Chloe a meaningful experience as she prepares to become a future Ag teacher.” stated Brad Novacheck.

The purpose of the Agricultural Education Internship is to spark an interest in current collegiate students to consider entering the teaching profession and to provide interns hands-on experience as an agriculture teacher. Six students majoring in Agricultural Education have been selected and paired with current Minnesota agriculture teachers for the summer. The experience will focus on summer programming, such as Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) visits, curriculum development, community service events, and FFA leadership activities. One week will be spent at the Minnesota Association of Agricultural Educators (MAAE) summer conference. Interns can also take advantage of optional activities for professional development and networking.

This internship was made possible by generous donations from AgCountry Farm Credit Services, CHS Foundation, Christensen Farms, and Compeer Financial. The Minnesota Legislature also provides funding through the Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA) to be administered by MAELC.
