The 1st Annual Mazeppa Monster Dash 5K Fun Run, held on Sunday, October 26, proved to be an unforgettable fall celebration that brought the community together in a big way. Under clear skies and warm autumn air, residents turned out in impressive numbers to support the Mazeppa Trail Project—and their enthusiasm didn’t go unnoticed.
The event raised over $8,300 toward Phase 1 of the trail, and attendance was so strong that organizers quickly ran out of pumpkins and food, a testament to the community’s excitement and support.
In addition to the fun run, families enjoyed a wide variety of fall festivities, including a lively Trunk-or-Treat event hosted by the Mazeppa Business Women, face painting, pumpkin decorating, vendors, games, a costume contest, and more—adding festive charm and warmth to the afternoon.
A special thanks was extended to the dedicated volunteers, community partners, the Mazeppa Lions, Mazeppa Fire Department, the Muni, the Mazeppa Business Women, sponsors, donors, and Ben Sand, who helped organize the 5K alongside the Mazeppa Trail team. Significant financial contributions from the Mazeppa Lions and Mazeppa First State Bank of Red Wing also played a crucial role in moving the project forward.
Thanks to the success of the event and these major contributions, the City of Mazeppa has approved a Cultural Resources Survey, officially allowing Phase 1 of the Mazeppa Trail Project to begin. This milestone marks the first major step toward bringing the long-envisioned trail to life.
The Mazeppa Trail organization is also proud to announce that it has been awarded both the Safe Routes to School Grant and the Local Partnership Program Grant, providing additional momentum and financial support for upcoming phases.
With funding secured, community enthusiasm at an all-time high, and Phase 1 ready to move forward, organizers say this is only the beginning for the Mazeppa Trail.
As the inaugural fun run wrapped up, one thing was clear: Mazeppa’s community spirit is stronger than ever—and the trail’s future is brighter than before.
