Eleven different schools from Southeast Minnesota brought twenty-six teams of fifth grade math students to participate in the regional Math Masters competition held in Rochester on April 29th. Zumbrota Mazeppa Elementary School had ten

fifth grade students competing among the 134 participants.

The day started with 75 fact questions in which the students are given five minutes to complete. All ZMES students placed in the upper 50% in this task with Beau Dilley receiving the 5th place medal, Asher Wills taking 14th place and Henry Hoffbeck the 20th place ribbon.

Then came the story problem phase of the competition with sets of eight problems to be completed in ten minutes. Deacon Merschbrock received the 15th place award of the 134 students for solving these problems.

The final section for these fifth grade math wizards brings the students together to work as teams to solve more complex story problems. The team of Onna Raasch, Josie Klapperich, Harper Klassen, Vivienne Schroeder and Bexley Sprick earned the 7th place ribbons out of the 26 teams competing. All of the ZMES students participating in this math competition were well prepared and showed extremely well at this competition.
