Congress’s approval of the reconciliation bill eliminates Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) Education (SNAP-Ed) funding, which in essence cuts the program at the end of the fiscal year, September 30.
As a result of the elimination of funding — including about $7 million per year to University of Minnesota Extension — SNAP-Ed funded employees are being laid off across the country.
About 60 Extension employees across Minnesota are receiving job termination notices, and many will have employment end dates of August 22. These job terminations are not a reflection of the employees’ performance or the program’s effectiveness.
Last year, 756 community partners worked with Extension SNAP-Ed to implement community-level changes that benefitted 173,702 Minnesotans across the state. We couldn’t have done it without your collaboration. Thank you for supporting our staff, our programs and our mission.
We know that SNAP-Ed makes Minnesota healthier. We are proud of the work we have done and the lives we have changed for the better.
