Zumbrota-Mazeppa sixth grade Math Master teams did extremely well at the Math Master competition in Rochester on March 4th. There were nine different schools with a total of twenty teams bringing the top sixth grade math-minded students from the Southeast Minnesota area to complete at Wood Lake Meeting Center in Rochester.

The day started with the fact drill. The students have 5 minutes to complete 75 questions such as 24-4+6(7+3). (Answer 80). Students at ZMES do know their facts and all fifteen placed in the upper half of the 98 students at the competition. Special recognition went to Bristol Henderson placing 2nd and Payton Gosse at 10th place.

Next were four sets of individual story problems where again most ZMES students placed in the upper half of all participants. In this section Cohen Smith took 5th place and Emmett Weiland placed 10th of the 98 in attendance.

In the final section of the competition, the students worked as teams of five to solve more complicated problems. The three ZMES teams were all recognized with awards by placing 3rd, 4th, and 7th out of the 20 teams competing. Well done Zumbrota-Mazeppa 6th grade!!
